Children of Alcoholics Week 2010 14-20 February - Children of Alcoholics Week 2010 14-20 February

Children of Alcoholics Week is a campaign to raise awareness of the difficulties faced by millions of children of alcohol-dependent parents in the UK. Growing up with a problem drinker in the family can have a lasting effect. We want all those affected to know that they are not alone and that help and understanding is available.

“Finding someone I felt comfortable talking to was the beginning of everything changing for me. Without your help and support, Mum could have drunk herself to death and I could have spent the rest of my life watching her. Now I know there is help for Mum and for me. Now I can get on with my life”

Research shows there are at least 3.7 million people who are affected by parental alcoholism in the UK.

“Happy Children of Alcoholics Week to all my dear friends and colleagues in the U.K. I especially salute the work of Nacoa during this special time of the year. They handled over 30,000 helpline calls in 2009. They are making such a huge difference by reminding children of all ages that they are not alone, addiction is not their fault, and there are safe people and places, like Nacoa, to turn to for help. For so many, Nacoa is a safe haven for help and hope.”
